Lions Come Back From 14 Points Down To Beat Chargers, 41-38

The Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers engaged in a high-scoring affair on Sunday, with the Lions ultimately emerging victorious 41-38. The win improved the Lions’ record to 7-2, while the Chargers dropped to 5-4.

The Lions’ offense was led by wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who had a career-high 156 yards receiving and a touchdown. Running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery also had strong performances, rushing for 77 and 116 yards, respectively, and combining for three touchdowns.

Quarterback Jared Goff completed 23 of 33 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns. He also converted a key fourth-down pass to rookie tight end Sam LaPorta in the final minutes of the game, which set up the game-winning field goal by Riley Patterson.

The Chargers’ offense was also impressive, led by quarterback Justin Herbert, who threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Keenan Allen had 11 receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than seven points. The Lions took a 38-31 lead with seven and a half minutes remaining, but the Chargers responded with a touchdown pass from Herbert to Allen to tie the game at 38-38.

The Lions got the ball back with just over two minutes remaining and drove to the Chargers’ 20-yard line. Patterson then kicked a 41-yard field goal as time expired to give the Lions the victory.

Big Play:

With under two minutes remaining in the game and the Lions facing a 4th and 2 at the Chargers’ 26-yard line, Lions head coach Dan Campbell opted to go for it instead of kicking a field goal to take the lead. Goff found LaPorta between two defenders for a six-yard gain, which helped the Lions ice the clock and set up Patterson for the game-winning field goal.

Up Next:

The Lions will host the Chicago Bears next Sunday, November 19th at 1:00 PM ET. The Chargers will travel to face the Arizona Cardinals on the same day at 4:05 PM ET.
